We develop and implement our proprietary SCExpert suite of advanced applications for logistics operations and third party logistics service providers. Purpose of the Function:

The Technology Solutions team is responsible for developing and hosting Synapse. Its teams include the software development team, QA and DevOps, as well as the infrastructure team that hosts Synapse for the majority of 3PL clients.

Purpose of the Job:

The Systems Administrator will be responsible for the technical design, planning, implementation, and the highest level of performance tuning and recovery procedures for mission critical enterprise systems. The individual ensures efficient operation of Made4net’s IT mission-critical enterprise, operating systems and other software to ensure it is secure and stable by the redesign and configuration of operating systems and system applications. Investigates and analyzes the feasibility of system requirements and develops system specifications.

This includes not only monitoring all internal IT and communications systems including customer-facing hosted and cloud environments. The person will provide expert technical assistance independently and/or as part of a team to troubleshoot issues assigned via the ticketing system by urgently analyzing technical issues and making recommendations for resolution.

Finally, the Systems Administrator will be called upon to provide input for strategic planning, help coordinate services by vendors, design and oversee installation to the existing systems. The incumbent will administer, monitor and troubleshoot software and operating system issues related to telephone, data center, cyber-security systems, and other system software.

Core Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensures high availability and acceptable levels of performance of mission-critical hosted resources. Develops procedures to maintain security and protect systems from unauthorized use, acts of nature and user abuse.
  • Manages the day-to-day operations of Made4net’s technology resources by monitoring system performance, configuration, maintenance, and repair. Applies revisions to system firmware, software, and works with vendors to assist in support activities.
  • Ensures that records of system downtime and equipment inventory are properly maintained. Develops procedures, programs and documentation for backup and restoration of host operating systems and host-based applications.
  • Develops new system and application implementation plans, creates custom scripts and testing procedures to ensure operational reliability. Establishes guidelines and methods for the installation and management of host operating systems, server hardware, network hardware, Wireless equipment, disk arrays, SAN and NAS devices, fiber channel switches, and other components.
  • Performs troubleshooting as necessary by leading problem-solving efforts often involving outside vendors and other support personnel.
  • Establishes, maintains and manages user accounts. Installs, modifies and maintains systems and utility software on server systems.
  • Develops and coordinates project directions and schedules to maximize benefits and minimize impacts on the organization. Provides input in planning and implementation of projects for operations and enterprise systems administration.
  • Trains others in how to use new software and hardware developed and/or acquired. Moreover, develops tools, procedures, and trains for other staff who may act as a backup in their absence.
  • Manages the data center and hosted systems including hardware, software, and equipment. This applies to legacy systems hosted in Made4net 3PL’s private cloud and those residing in AWS.
  • Stays current with technological developments in systems administration technology and recommends ways for Made4net to take advantage of new technology.

Required Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) in Computer Science or equivalent education through vocational training, certifications, or on-the-job training.  Six plus (6+) years’ experience of working in a similar IT infrastructure role.

Computer/Software Knowledge:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have deep knowledge of many different technologies to include, but not limited to: Scripting languages (PowerShell, bash, batch), virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V, Zen), operating systems (Windows and Linux); enterprise backup/recovery and disaster recovery, system performance monitoring; effective project management techniques, cloud hosting providers – especially AWS. Database installation, maintenance, and query development. Hardware and software installation and maintenance. Knowledge of blade systems installation and configuration and maintenance. Storage technologies SAN, NAS and SAN fabric. Storage protocols (CIFS, NFS and iSCSI). Security software and other security-related technologies. Switching (VLAN’s), WAN Technology (VPN), Voice Technologies (VoIP), and wireless technologies. The individual should also have knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

Physical Demands:

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50-80 pounds from a floor position to an over the head position.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, verbally communicate, and perform intricate finger dexterity to type or manipulate electronic documents while speaking or listening.
